TRADING ASSISTANT:

Boston based investment management firm, has an opening in the trading team.  This client invests in a wide range of securities and asset classes including domestic and foreign stocks and bonds, securities and trade claims of companies in financial distress, performing and non-performing bank loans, real estate-related debt and equity, and privately negotiated investments.

Candidate should possess the following characteristics and qualifications:

Ø       undergraduate degree with professional experience on a trading desk and a basic finance foundation

Ø       strong analytical and computing skills (strong Excel skills are mandatory)

Ø       strong verbal and written communications skills

Ø       ability to work independently while at the same time work effectively in a collaborative structure; build and maintain positive and effective counterparty relationships

Ø       thrive in a fast-paced, deadline oriented, open environment, with the ability to multi-task and work consistently while under pressure

Ø       desire to work in the details while also having the ability to understand a more macro prospective and apply theory to the practical level

This position is a member of the team responsible for the trading of public securities across all asset classes.  This position will assist four traders, and work closely with one trading associate and one other trading assistant.

The specific responsibilities of this position include:

Ø       trade processing

Ø       handle incoming calls to the trading desk and relay trading information to the traders

Ø       communicate important news to the investment team

Ø       maintenance of various files/databases & spreadsheets that assist the investment team

Ø       work with the operations group to resolve trade discrepancies between Baupost and investment counterparties

Ø       work with the operations group to maintain trading and portfolio accounting systems

Ø       work with IT on development of new trading technologies

Ø       standardize current processes, highlight areas for improvement and implement new procedures to gain efficiencies
